Time to make big changes in my life with lots of work to do in a short amount of time! I've never backed down from a challenge and I don't intend on doing so now!

On October 13, 2009 I submitted my application to join the Canadian Armed Forces as a Regular Force member. Basic Military Qualifications (BMQ) is scheduled for end of August, 2010.

Up & Running

T-0, today’s the day! I’m off!

Shortest … entry… EVER…. sorry for lack of updates the past few days… between trying to get ready for this and dealing with my car crisis, I didn’t get to ‘finish up’ this blog pre-basic the way I wanted to. But heck, you go with the punches, right? You do what you gotta do!

My brother [...]

T-6, Taking time for yourself

I’ve mentioned a few times how I’ve been a tad on the exhausted side, getting ready for everything. My vitamin C regime appears to have worked and my throat is feeling tonnes better today. This is awesome news, believe me! I’d hate to start training sick. So, this is good!  However, overall I haven’t taken the time to [...]

I am official!

Had my official swearing-in ceremony today! It’s official, I’m a Private! …. well, a private with an (R) beside it meaning, recruit. When BMQ is done, that’ll be removed but - still! I’m a private!

Who woulda thunk a year ago I would ever be here? Around this time I was waiting, waiting, waiting for my [...]

T-19, Like running through water

Today I decided to go for a run. My running is sucking big time and I wished I hadn’t lost all my training days this year and wished I could have taken advantage of those missed workouts right now. But, I can’t ‘oh woe is me’ right now. No time for that shit.

Anyways, I began [...]

T-22, Getting your affairs in order

Being prepared for basic training does involve more than just getting fit, mentally prepared and through the job interview. For some — especially older people or those with commitments such as family — have a few more things they need to arrange before they leave.  When the recruiting centre asks you if you have any [...]

T-27, Four weeks from now…

Four weeks from now I will be driving down a highway passing through my old communities waving good-bye to my family along the way and heading to Quebec and finding myself at the Saint-Jean megaplex fortress where I’ll be walking through The Green Door.

The Green Door is where all new recruits to Saint-Jean pass through [...]

T-37, Fortune Cookies Do Not Lie

I’ve got to say I’m a bit on the freaked-out side. I do not feel ready physically to go. Honestly, this car accident really had slowed down my progress and I was in total denial of how bad it was. I needed to be in denial as a coping mechanism.  I’m fine now but it took [...]

Stoked!

Hey! Changed my plans — instead, I picked up my taxes (getting a refund back that will help take care of the dog while I’m at basic!) and decided it was too nice of a day to have a gym workout. Instead, I got the air pumped into my tires, grabbed the dog and went [...]

T-40, Three big disappointments & a holy crap!

Just a few thingsto go over today — it’s the weekend, I’ve got three weeks of readings to catch up on, start my packing for the big move, a bit of cleaning and finally, get my arse to the gym!

I’ve had three regrets from this summer and hate living a life of regret. The first [...]

T-47, Of course!

Yesterday’s planned expedition of going kayaking got postponed so instead, I decided to take the dog up to the college trails and go for a hike/walk/run. It went relatively well as I managed to get up the Rigor Mortis hill faster than previously with less rests. Then, on the way back I started to hear [...]
