Time to make big changes in my life with lots of work to do in a short amount of time! I've never backed down from a challenge and I don't intend on doing so now!

On October 13, 2009 I submitted my application to join the Canadian Armed Forces as a Regular Force member. Basic Military Qualifications (BMQ) is scheduled for end of August, 2010.

Up & Running

T-6, Taking time for yourself

I’ve mentioned a few times how I’ve been a tad on the exhausted side, getting ready for everything. My vitamin C regime appears to have worked and my throat is feeling tonnes better today. This is awesome news, believe me! I’d hate to start training sick. So, this is good!  However, overall I haven’t taken the time to [...]

I am official!

Had my official swearing-in ceremony today! It’s official, I’m a Private! …. well, a private with an (R) beside it meaning, recruit. When BMQ is done, that’ll be removed but - still! I’m a private!

Who woulda thunk a year ago I would ever be here? Around this time I was waiting, waiting, waiting for my [...]

T-27, Four weeks from now…

Four weeks from now I will be driving down a highway passing through my old communities waving good-bye to my family along the way and heading to Quebec and finding myself at the Saint-Jean megaplex fortress where I’ll be walking through The Green Door.

The Green Door is where all new recruits to Saint-Jean pass through [...]

T-37, Fortune Cookies Do Not Lie

I’ve got to say I’m a bit on the freaked-out side. I do not feel ready physically to go. Honestly, this car accident really had slowed down my progress and I was in total denial of how bad it was. I needed to be in denial as a coping mechanism.  I’m fine now but it took [...]

Conquering Fears

Years ago I used to be quite adventurous. When I was about 16 years old, I had done an assistant lifeguard volunteer position with a church camp and one weekend the staffers (who were my age now, in their late twenties & early thirties) and I decided to jump off a silo. Er… well, I [...]

50 days & Happy Canada Day!

Wow, I can’t believe there’s only 50 days left until this new journey begins! But, that being said - I suppose I’ve been on this journey already for over a year now! So much has changed, so much for the better and it’s amazing to see the support I had from my family and friends. [...]

T -60 days, Run until ya wanna puke...

Today was a helter-skelter day. All over the place with regards to where I needed to be. By the end of the day, I really did NOT want to go to the gym. But I did. I didn’t go for long though, just long enough to go for a 2.4 km run on the treadmill.

Just [...]

Taking Risks

Last entry I was debating whether or not to take one or two classes or even none at all.  I’ve thought carefully over the past few days and decided life is too short to not take risks. I need to stop analysing things sometimes and just NEED TO DO IT. I need to stop making [...]

2.5 beautiful kilometres

My lifeguarding exam is coming up very, very soon. I haven’t swam much in the past month and by last class I was beginning to feel it. Swimming went to the wayside as soon as school started because there’s only so many hours in the day and your “free” hours don’t always match up to [...]

Pretty excited!

About four years ago, I began nagging my brother. I nagged him because he was constantly complaining about not having a job that was consistent, that paid enough wages to put a roof over his head and that he was “bored”.

“Join the army!” I said.

He continued to ponder and think about it and such. I [...]
