Time to make big changes in my life with lots of work to do in a short amount of time! I've never backed down from a challenge and I don't intend on doing so now!
On October 13, 2009 I submitted my application to join the Canadian Armed Forces as a Regular Force member. Basic Military Qualifications (BMQ) is scheduled for end of August, 2010.

Things are going pretty good these days. Slowly getting figured out at work — my new job. It’s a pretty cool job but a steep learning curve. However, my two bosses seem pretty comfortable with giving me the responsibilities. Maybe I just need to have more faith in myself.
It does make me feel good though [...]

Hey folks,
Well, this wasn’t exactly the kind of first update I wanted to give. However, it is what it is.
First week of basic was going okay. I failed my first PT xpress test by one push-up, which sucks. We had a chance to re-do the test on the Friday but Thursday I had injured myself [...]

Had my official swearing-in ceremony today! It’s official, I’m a Private! …. well, a private with an (R) beside it meaning, recruit. When BMQ is done, that’ll be removed but - still! I’m a private!
Who woulda thunk a year ago I would ever be here? Around this time I was waiting, waiting, waiting for my [...]

Four weeks from now I will be driving down a highway passing through my old communities waving good-bye to my family along the way and heading to Quebec and finding myself at the Saint-Jean megaplex fortress where I’ll be walking through The Green Door.
The Green Door is where all new recruits to Saint-Jean pass through [...]

I half-heartedly joked a few months back with all my bad luck, that I must have been a puppy killer in a past life or something. Fortunately, I don’t believe in Karma…
Bad marriage, start new life.
Car accident at Christmas.
Sprained ankle two weeks ago.
And today, fall down stairs (there is broken concrete on it) and land [...]

Years ago I used to be quite adventurous. When I was about 16 years old, I had done an assistant lifeguard volunteer position with a church camp and one weekend the staffers (who were my age now, in their late twenties & early thirties) and I decided to jump off a silo. Er… well, I [...]

I served with distinction, no visions of glory.
I served without question of personal gain.
Seek no justification, it’s not part of my story,
and it offers no comfort to the ones who remain.

About four years ago, I began nagging my brother. I nagged him because he was constantly complaining about not having a job that was consistent, that paid enough wages to put a roof over his head and that he was “bored”.
“Join the army!” I said.
He continued to ponder and think about it and such. I [...]

In some ways the past few months I feel I’ve moved forward in large strides (literally) when it comes to running and endurance but in other ways? I feel as if I’ve moved backward.
Unfortunately after the accident, I didn’t do much in the way of sit-ups. I didn’t want to aggravate the whiplash (avoiding set-backs) so [...]

A few months ago I posted this unassuming update on my facebook status that simply read along the lines of “When does someone cross that line? From hating running to liking it? Maybe even loving it? When does one “become a runner”? Do you just wake up one day and enjoy it?”
I got a few [...]
